Plant Pregnancy

A project to open people’s minds to think about plants similar to babies and give them the treatment they deserve.

The project is intended to illustrate the impact of a plant to a person to encourage community to treat plants as lovingly as pets or babies. The slight discomfort indicates the care that is being given.

A thirsty plant will literally cry for help

uberfacts:

Scientists have learned that plants do indeed cry out when they need attention.

We just haven’t heard them because the sounds made by a thirsty plant are about five times higher-pitched than we can hear. But scientists with tiny specialized microphones have heard corn plants calling for water. During their study, researchers learned that plants make a great deal of noise. Corn leaves and stalks make noises as they slide against each other during growth. We have all heard the sound of plant leaves rattling in the wind. Corn stalks also make noise as they bend in the wind.

However, another sound was heard when the corn didn’t have enough water. It was a high-pitched popping noise. Plants have water tubes in them that carry water and nutrients up from the roots to the leaves. Water flows up these tubes under tension. When there is not enough water, the tension becomes too great and the tubes fracture. The popping is the sound of those tubes fracturing. The result of fractured tubes is a wilted plant. When water is restored, the tubes refill, the popping noises stop, and the plant again looks healthy.

So this one time a gang of goats thought it would be a good idea to walk by the cul-de-sac and eat some of our plants. It was just a bunch of them & the big one as usual attacked the tallest plant nearest to them right there. Luckily they didn't touch my dad's date plants. They're quite adorable though, especially the little ones.

I proceeded to take some photos and they ran away & moved to the final house in the 'sac (since ours is the second last). I followed them and took that last picture, and went back in the house. My sisters and their friends arrived and saw the goats but for some reason when the gang returned it scared the girls which rushed back inside the house. and oh gLOB I SWEAR TWO OF THE BIG ONES DID A HEADBUTT. I assumed that that was the goat equivalent of a fistbump. Those goats fistbumped each other after scaring my sisters away. wHAT

This was a man, dressed as a plant, making pigeon noises at people walking by. I said hello, asked if it was okay to take his picture, and then asked why he was dressed as a plant. He said, “I’m just working through some stuff. Thank you for asking. No ones asked yet.”
