I’ve seen a few fashion posts trying to expand the “Marie Antoinette is not Victorian” rant, but this stuff can get complicated, so here is a semi-comprehensive list so everyone knows exactly when all of these eras were.

Please note that this is very basic and that there are sometimes subcategories (especially in the 17th century, Jacobean, Restoration, etc)

And people wonder WHY I complain about History/Art History periodization. Note how much overlap there is to the above “eras”, and how many exceptions and extensions there are to these categories.

Oh, and by the way…

Because you wouldn’t want to be historically inaccurate.

I love this movie

I have no clue what movie this is but I want to see it.

it’s from night at the museum 2

the night at the museum films continue to be criminally underrated (aka blown off bc they’re “just comedies for kids”, they are actually Really Really Good Films

Honestly.  Accurate POCs playing POCs (including an Egyptian Pharaoh, Hun warriors and a Native American girl), Robin Williams as Teddy Roosevelt, THIS SCENE and just being awesome in general

there’s a host of crazy shit that goes on, including a fucking t rex that plays fetch with one of its own ribs

long story short; they’re fab

Listen up Jay-Z, this Muslim woman’s got something to say to you.

Poet Khalil Gibran wrote, “Music is the language of the spirit”—but what happens when that language tears our spirit down?

Muslim spoken word poet Madiha Bhatti didn’t like the objectifying lyrics she heard in contemporary music. Rather than simply switching off the radio, she wrote some of her own. Watch as she warms up, then tears it up at the :30 mark. There are so many snap-worthy moments in this, our fingers hurt..

Why does Beyonce have to crawl on all fours to top the charts? Does her husband have that problem?

No, he’s got 99 others.

Why hasn't she released an album yet? We need more POC-feminism rap songs in this world instead of the same old crapshiturd with cliche lyrics. And in this case her lyrics are packed to the brim with oh-snap moments XD
